Dogs who
stay with us are fed in their own area separated from the other dogs by
either a door or a puppy-gate, and are not allowed back into the communal
area until all food and bowls are cleaned and put away. This ensures that
there is no fighting over food. No toys are allowed, (except on walks,)
since this also can lead to fighting.
We strongly
recommend that the owner provide the food so that the dog remains on the
same daily diet that they are used to, (since abruptly changing food can
lead to gastric upset and diarrhea. Our dogs get a variety of things in
their meal, such as dry food mixed with a little bit of canned food, (&
veggies & cottage cheese,) so feel free to provide anything and everything
that is normally included in your dogs meal. As for treats, which
I like to give out during our walks in the park, I keep Iams
Biscuits, Old
Mother Hubbard Biscuits, (as well as homemade and all-natural treats
from Buttercups Paw-tisserie, (a
doggy gourmet bakery in Brooklyn, NY, (whose treats my dogs love, on hand.)
Filtered water is also provided at all times.
